Alpine Resorts Co-ordinating Council

Projects

A key part of the Council's work program is to establish and/or manage projects of relevance to Victorian resorts, especially where a co-ordinated or whole-of-industry perspective is desirable.

Recent and current ARCC projects are:

All Resorts Season Entry Pass - Council has been working with the five Victorian Alpine Resort Management Boards to develop an entry pass that will offer discounted seasonal entry to all of the resorts.

Alpine Resorts 2020 Strategy Implementation - Council has an ongoing responsibility to report on the progress being made by agencies to implement the Alpine Resorts Strategic Plan. Implementation reports are prepared based on surveys of the relevant agencies.

Alpine Resorts Registration of Leases Project - a consideration of possible registration of, and use of strata titles for, alpine resort leases.

Alpine Resort Strategic Management Plans Assessment - a project undertaken with the Department of Sustainability and Environment to provide advice as to the extent that proposed strategic management plans met the requirements of the Act and the Alpine Resorts 2020 Strategy, and provided a clear, measurable and comparable framework.

Alpine Sustainability Forums - an annual forum for Alpine resort managers and those in snow related industries designed to be a catalyst for change and initiatives in sustainable use and management of alpine resorts.

ARC - VSA Agreement 2007 Rental Review - Council was requested by the Minister to lead and facilitate the required six yearly review of the ARC - VSA Agreement and make recommendations to him in relation to revised rental arrangements.

Bed Utilisation Study - a research project investigating the perceived mis-match of accommodation supply and demand during the peak winter season at Mount Buller.

Comparison of Alpine Resorts and Municipal Charges - an update of a 2003 comparative study of rates, rents, service charges and contributions at Victorian Alpine Resorts and equivalent charges at selected New South Wales ski resorts and Victorian municipalities.

-

Economic Significance Study - a major economic survey across Victoria and NSW documenting accurate information on the value of the alpine resorts, in terms of jobs and economic contribution, to their regions and the State.

End of Season Reports - these reports, the first of which was published in 2007 for the 2006 season, brings together the weekly visitor entry statistics and weekly snow depth for the Resorts into a readily available single document with commentary. The project involves the recording and collation of the annual data, comparison with historic data, and analysis.

-

Keep Winter Cool - a national climate change awareness initiative.

Key Performance Indicators - in response to a request by the Victorian Government, Council embarked on a project to develop a series of environmental and social KPIs to measure the Alpine Resorts' progress towards sustainability. Draft KPIs were released for public comment in April 2007. The Environmental KPIs were released in April 2008, with the Social KPIs finalised in April 2009.

Non-winter Products - research into non-winter use and products, and all season advocacy.

Short Walks to Great Views Brochure - a brochure to support all season use of the Alpine Resorts by promoting a tourism product for summer visitors that is readily accessible and always open.

Snow Reporting Project - The collation of snow depth measurements compiled by the Victorian Snow Reporting Service to form a primary data source for a range of comparative and analytical research.

Summer Vehicle Counting Project - an annual summer vehicle counting project commencing on the Melbourne Cup long weekend and running until ANZAC day, recognising that vehicle counts are a useful indicator of visitation and thus a helpful method to measure success of initiatives to attract non-winter visitation. The first report, for the 2007/08 summer season, was released in 2008.

- Winter Visitor Counting Survey - a systematic program of collecting and collating winter visitation statistics to each of the Victorian alpine resorts. These results are collated weekly, with a separate annual report prepared.
