The Jayco Herlad Sun Tour 2017

The Jayco Herald Sun Tour 2017 is heading to Falls Creek as the destination chosen for the Stage One finish on Thursday, 2nd February 2017.

Australia’s oldest stage race, the tour will feature international superstars Chris Froome (Three time Tour de France winner), Esteban Chaves and home-grown champion Simon Gerrans.  With such a strong field (and a doubtless thrilling race for first stage honours), the decision to feature Falls Creek is one that has been welcomed by riders and fans alike.

Race Director, John Trevorrow says “We were always planning a tough course, however when we locked in Chaves and Froome we decided a stage including Tawonga Gap and Falls Creek was perfect!  It’s a long climb to the finish but I don’t believe the race will be over on day one.  There are some really good climbers in the field so the big guns won’t be too far out in front.  What an opportunity for a youngster to take on the best and really make a name for himself”

As the stage finish host, Falls Creek will be activating a number of prime areas for spectating and activities for kids and adults alike from 1.30pm.  Live music, kid’s activities, face painting and maybe even a meet and greet with a pro.

“This is a great opportunity to showcase Falls Creek on an International stage” says Falls Creek Marketing & Communications Manager, Jo Prothero.  “We can’t think of a better location to watch the pro-riders battle it out on the climb up Falls. It will certainly be an exciting fight to cross the finish line.”

The Bogong High Plains Road from Mt Beauty will be subject to rolling road closures from 1pm so we encourage all spectators to leave Mt Beauty by 1pm at the latest to avoid missing the finish.   It is anticipated the riders will finish anytime from 2.30pm.

Why not make a weekend of it and stay overnight and ride yourself on Saturday or even try the new mountain bike trails, over 40km of single track trails.  Check out accommodation options here.

All Resorts Season Pass winner for 2016

Congratulations to Yvonne Beres from Mt Eliza who is the lucky winner of the 2016 All Resorts Season Pass prize draw. Yvonne has 3 children Emma (24), Christina (21) and Stephen (15) - all skiers. Yvonne usually takes the family on day trips to Mt Buller as it's the closest to Melbourne of the larger resorts. This year Yvonne introduced her 4 year old nephew to skiing, and he loved it. Yvonne watches the weather closely during winter and decides at the last minute whether the family will hit the slopes on the weekend, and whoever has time comes along. She also tries to get away mid-week if possible as she finds the queues are less crowded and she has more time for skiing! Yvonne and her family also visit Falls Creek and Mt Hotham each year for a few days. Congrats again Yvonne! We hope you get lots of skiing done in 2017!

Other winners include:

Rhonda Weir of Melton won a Mt Hotham pass

Greg Koller of Ashburton and Amanda Curtis of Mt Martha each won a Mt Buller/Mt Stirling pass

Lisa McCluskey of Tawonga won a Falls Creek pass

Tim Proctor of Alexandra won a Lake Mountain pass

Congrats to all our winners!
