The Alpine Resorts Co-ordinating Council, or ARCC, is established
under Victorian legislation to plan and facilitate the establishment,
development, promotion, management and use of the six Victorian
Alpine Resorts.
Victoria's
Alpine Resorts are unique areas that give visitors ready access
to Australia's very special Alpine environments. They provide
everyone with a magnificent all-year round recreational facility.
They are the main areas where Victorians can have fun in the
snow or, if they desire, engage in competitive snow sports.
The Alpine Resorts also perform a key economic role for their
regions and are an important part of Victoria's tourism industry.
The State
government is committed to a strategic vision for Victoria's
Alpine Resorts. The government's Alpine Resorts 2020 Strategy'
sets out a vision of "four season, vibrant, sustainable
resorts". A key role of the ARCC is to work with Alpine
Resort managers and others to pursue this vision by co-ordinating
the implementation of the many actions listed in the Strategy.

Winter 2007
End of Season Report
The
Victorian Alpine Resorts Winter 2007 End of Season Report is now
available. The latest in the now annual series of reports, was released
at the Alpine Resorts Sustainability Forum in April. The report
provides a wealth of detailed information on visitation to, and
snow conditions at, Victoria's alpine resorts during the 2007 winter
season. As a new initiative, the report also includes an estimate
of the economic contribution of the season. The report contains
extensive statistics, graphs and economic data that will be helpful
for all of those involved in the planning, use and development of
resorts. Copies are available in electronic
form or from Council's offices.
Inspiring
messages from St.Moritz.
The
fourth Alpine Resorts Sustainability Forum brought together 130
of the key players involved in alpine resorts from across Australia.
A real highlight was international keynote speaker, Dr Danuser,
the CEO of St.Moritz of Switzerland. Dr Danuser shared his extensive
knowledge and experience in developing leading edge environmental
programs and how his Resort was dealing with "hot" and
"cold" beds and providing housing for resort staff. Other
highlights were a Hypothetical led by media personality and skier,
Rob Gell, a series of workshops, and a sneak preview of a yet to
be released freeheel film by Steve Curtain. The Forum's theme was
'Creating Sustainable Alpine Communities' and as, Council Chairman,
Andrew Fairly, said: "The all-year round resort that many of
us are aspiring to will only be successful if we seriously look
at how we can together create communities on our mountains that
are viable, interesting and sustainable". Details of the conference
program and presentations are now available.
