Bed Utilisation
Study
The
Accommodation Supply and Demand during the Peak Winter Season on
Mount Buller report is a summary of a bed utilisation study undertaken
as an Honours Research Project. The project examined a perceived
mis-match of accommodation supply and demand. That is, it investigated
whether demand outstripped the number of beds available.
Using mail-out
surveys and interviews carried out in 2005, the research found that
during the peak period of a good snow season (August 2004) that
accommodation was not at full capacity. Mis-match was found only
for a small number of days and then only for some styles of accommodation.
The study concluded
that there was not a major mis-match of accommodation supply and
demand, that the number of cold beds do not currently restrict visitation,
and that any potential supply/demand imbalance relates to demand
at the cheaper end of the market (ie there is inadequate low end
commercial accommodation).
